How to get to the Grand Hotel Karel V

By train:
Utrecht Centraal is an international station with direct connections to various destinations in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. You cannot travel directly by train from London to Utrecht Centraal, but it is easy and fast to do so with one transfer, either in Brussels or Rotterdam.

When arriving by train in Utrecht exit the railway station on the side of Centrum/Hoog Catharijne and immediately turn right around the corner. Walk to the escalators/elevator and go down. Turn left at the first opportunity, cross the road at the traffic lights, and turn right at the next street. After 150 meters, you will see the hotel on your left. It’s a 10-minute walk.

Taxis are also available just outside the station. A ride to the hotel takes about 5 minutes. Estimated cost: €8–€12

By plane arriving at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
The cheapest and quickest way is to take the train.
After arriving at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, follow the signs to the train station, which is located directly beneath the airport terminal. You can purchase a train ticket to Utrecht Centraal from the yellow NS ticket machines in the arrivals area or use a contactless credit or debit card directly at the gate. Trains to Utrecht depart frequently, typically every 10 to 15 minutes, and most are direct Intercity services that do not require a transfer. The journey takes approximately 30 to 35 minutes. Be sure to board a train with a final destination that includes or passes through Utrecht Centraal. Estimated costs: €11 for a 2nd class ticket and €19 for a 1st class ticket

For participants who prefer a direct and more comfortable option, taxis are readily available at Schiphol Airport. The official taxi stand is located just outside the arrivals hall, near exit Door D (follow the signs for “Taxis”). A taxi ride from Schiphol to the Karel V Hotel in Utrecht typically takes around 45 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. The cost ranges between €90 and €120, depending on the time of day and traffic. We recommend using only the official Schiphol taxis to ensure reliability and safety. No advance reservation is necessary, but ride-hailing services such as Uber are also available at the designated pickup area.

Please note that due to the long traffic jams that are common between Utrecht and Amsterdam on Tuesday afternoons, and the direct train connection between Utrecht and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, we will not be providing a bus transfer to the airport after the seminar this time!

On Sunday evening, the cocktail reception and 35th anniversary dinner will take place at the Grand Hotel Karel V. The evening will begin at 19:00h with a cocktail reception, followed by dinner at 20:00h.

Monday, 25 September 2023 – 18.30h

On Monday evening, we invite you to a guided tour and dinner at the Museum Speelklok, an extraordinary venue dedicated to self-playing musical instruments. Housed in a former church in the heart of Utrecht, the museum features a captivating collection ranging from 16th-century carillon clocks and intricate music boxes to grand barrel and street organs—many of which still play their melodies live for visitors.

Following the private tour, we will enjoy dinner in the unique ambiance of the museum.
The venue is just a 10-minute walk from Grand Hotel Karel V, and we expect to return to the hotel around 22:30h.
